Arkansas State University’s communicable disease guidelines apply to monkeypox as well as COVID-19, meaning students should stay home and get medical help if they are ill, chief communications officer Bill Smith said in an email. The ASU system’s main campus is in Jonesboro, where no monkeypox cases have been confirmed.

“It would be inappropriate to speculate” on potential remote learning plans at this point, Smith said. The university will rely on state health department guidance when necessary.

“COVID taught everyone to have continuity of operations plans in place for any eventuality,” Smith said.
